60th Class Reunion
'Tis been a while since graduation
when our souls were full of expectations
and the future held no limitations
as we searched for direction
Those special times of youthful growth
cemented events now quite old
kept alive in our collective memory
they exist still in fuzzy clarity
We were offered a banquet of choices
that filled our minds with silent voices
as lack of maturity obscured our vision
during times of graduate celebration
Some of us embarked on university ships
while others booked passage on the Titanic
and we heartily guzzled life
on a journey filled with strife
We grooved to songs of yesterday
absorbed generational music relentlessly
that reverberates in the placid pools of memory
gratefully embedded in our individual identities
The swift current of youth
carried our future then in bloom
and took our spirit on adventures
that altered our innocent nature
We didn't dispute the reason
or the purpose of our summer season
when desire surged at every glance
that might lead us to romance
Years passed like a comet blazing
while Elvis was still in the building
Little Anthony and the Imperials
entertained us with ballads quite trivial
The Supremes and Johny Mathis filled our minds
with lyrics always soft and kind
as time elapsed in a steady stream
that carried us to our individual dreams
Now, our hair grows thinner
having experienced Earth, Wind and Fire
We've worked our fingers to the bone
while listening to the Rolling Stones
and life has become an abstraction
in our daily quest for satisfaction
Our past shines like a pearl
because we heard the Duke of Earl
while his music reminded us everyday
that we're all made of fragile clay
We certainly dismissed getting old
while the thought invaded our souls
we climbed hills that became mountains
to drink from the summit fountain
Yes, 'Tis been some time since graduation
but we've all achieved some satisfaction
now, we crave to discover the distant shore
of our voyage, no less, no more
