Joy and Sorrow

Happiness and Despair

are emotions we all know

as we live year to year

SMILES are but a FROWN    
that the face turns upside down

Do LOVE when youth rages

HATE not the awkward stages

BEAUTY much like grief is temporary

while UGLYNESS in spirit is scary

Life's WINTER arrives too quickly

as SUMMER'S years are wasted away

HEAVEN, so much a desire

when HELL promises pain and fire

WAR contains chaos and disaster

PEACE is the scalpel that cuts out the cancer

The SUN is high at noon

while the MOON sings lusty tunes

TRUTH flows from virgin wells

LIES are regurgitated from hell

EVIL in its strange delight

seeks GOODNESS to make it right

SWEET kisses in the night

turn SOUR in daylight

When MORNING shadows fade away

 EVENING chases them all day

poetic BINARY opposites of the mind

are SINGULARLY an interesting find

The day ends in stinging guilt

with the heart aching in sorrow

entwined in the killing fields of filth

where there is no tomorrow

  

A candle flickers in the night 

the light of day having left

Shades are drawn on today's sights

to hide the ugly darkness of death

Ghostly sounds course through branches

they lurk in shadows that absorb noises

as rain like mournful tears breaches

the dreadful sight of naked corpses

Silenced life in gloomy painted hues

is displayed on masks worn starkly

that cover blood-stained patriotic dues

embedded in the nightmare they carry

The consequences of failed kindness

cold indifference to human life

surfaces in mindless distress

that feeds hate and strife

'Tis no wonder that hate

remains untouched by rational norms

and conflicts become futile wakes

instead of sunlit love songs

for Veterans...everyday is Veterans' Day
