Wintertime
Winter winds deeply relentless
carry wisps of burning wood
smoke zestfully rise in their blueness
slowly drift above rooftops and frozen brook
Slanting sun rays no longer warm
cast shadows transplanted on frosted paths
over swollen ground in hideous forms
that seek to frighten travelers who pass
The softly falling crystal powder
settles on nature like a heavenly whisper
and in stillness, drifts grow and cover
lowly bushes with wings of silver
The spiders handy work sparkles with frost
surrendering to the season at hand
and any hope for warmth is lost
in snow-bound fields and land
For now, at deliberate pace beneath wintry skies
we plod the lane to fulfillment
That road leading us from those wintry nights
Taking us closer to Springtime contentment
