Ghost Skaters
In the afterglow of the setting sun
and with eyes quiet in sleep
silent prayers have left my tongue
diverting my spirit to cogitations sweet
I suddenly hear crunching of blades on ice
but in the darkened rink no body's there
the frozen ice sheet fills my sight
as sound reverberates in my sleepy ears
Sounds emanating from the darkness beyond
lively noises of skate blade steel
crunching the hard water found
that,in my dream, sound quite real
In the cold haze and in mind's eye noticing
colorful shadows move gracefully
with sliding puck and sticks slashing
translucent specters glide triumphantly
Putting shoulders into hapless victims
The fierce contest my eyes behold
throughout this evening late full of strange things
as my freezing ears battle the cold
This spectacle does night calm violate
and with dream vision I clearly see
my reflection in glass on this night late
'Tis a ghostly apparition unlike me
The spectator observing a dream unreal
containing spirits of mind construct
eternally skating with the zeal
of ghost players chasing the elusive puck
