The Lighthouse
Sailing on a black velvet night
I seek the warmth of harbor lights
Absent tonight are heavens beacons
as my schooner is buffeted beyond reason
No turning back to wait for morning
I face cold mortality in bitter winds
As this ink black night forecasts sorrow
to all on this oceans harsh flow
The frothy tops of windblown waves
like monsters from deep graves
lament and spray ice cold spit
as the mast is snapped into bits
I've travelled too far on this voyage
to flounder and to death acknowledge
So, through salty spray stinging the eyes
I search for the lighthouse before I die
Then, above the swells a light flashes
A rogue wave on my port side crashes
and drives the bow under greenish seas
I'll remember that lighthouse as I sail into eternity
