Becoming visible during a spring shower...Your ghostly apparition in the fog-shrouded water...Regally parted the blue-gray river...Giving off flashes of white in the misty vapor...Following days' sunshine found you still there...Resplendant, paddling about without a care...From my perch on high, viewing from day to day...You gracefully swam across the way...Sometimes preening your plumage of white...Seemingly picture perfect and bright...Mute swan of summer always alone...Your mate having long gone...Nobly moving in the limpid liquid, as time passes...Sampling the sweet summer grasses...You ate your fill, while swimming about...Not once did I hear you shout...Although I yearned to listen all along...To your swans' summer song...Not once did you take to the air...During those lovely summer days, that year...You noticed not the happiness...Given freely to me, in excess...By just manifesting your presence...Within my reality, a gift to my senses...Perfection and grace to be noticed...Lingering in my memory, during the summer solstice...Local waterfowl stayed well clear...T'was perhaps out of fear...But maybe, just maybe their action...Was out of respect for perfection...Then, as if by magic, one day...You came into view, your mate leading the way...Just as perfect as you...So were the three little ones too...So goes the cycle of life and beauty...My summer swan and me...
