Starting Again
The future advances slowly
never seems to arrive
we feel it coming our way
as food, rent and bills loom large
We hang on to a spinning earth
waiting to be cast away
into an illusion of rebirth
that in mind struggles to stay
Our renewed tomorrow strangely welcoming
paints a future barely alive
we find ourselves in a painting
returning to a routine of nine to five
Hope cannot pierce the looming fear
that sustains the fire of memories
present in ashes soaked with tears
that now exists in human reality
We begin again to live with desire
muse on how civilization survives
as its flickering candle holds dying fire
that chases away fear with promising light
We return to boisterous celebration
after adjusting to life changes
and gleefully toast our decision
to conquer COVID-19 in our land
