Mid-Winter Ramble..

MID-WINTER RAMBLE

I focus my sight
upon a field of white
pinned by a blue expanse
where the song-sparrow chants

Sunshine shimmies on the frosty glaze
perforated by imprints from previous days
and in the somber woods nearby
light splits branches to reveal the sky

The numbed grass lays dormant
torpid during Winters' torment
and the seasonal landscape found
remains littered with dried seed crowns

Weed skeletons dance in the breeze
that puffs at last Autumns leaves
as silent shadows crawl across the field
advancing at a paltry speed

They emerge from the wooded fringe
to absorb sunlight that shrinks
on the defiant snow cover
to detain momentarily Spring fever

The Springtime thaw looms distant
as I ramble where white is constant
Shadows appear somewhat longer
while I wander along the coursing river

The afternoon slips away in silence
and I savor my existence
Breathing natures' lively air
that unshackles me from the Pandemic scare
