MIDNIGHT BLUE....

Midnight Blue

When the full moon rises over the hill
long shadows retreat and become still
My yard turns into a midnight blue
under winters powdered residue
In the twisted roots that look like knees
all curled up like limbs of trees
light reflects in streaks of white
that fill my grateful eyes tonight

Dreams tend to bloom in this semi-darkness
far from blinding openness
they seem to love the gray of light
that wandering ghosts offer at night
specters not concerned with giving fright
They only seek the graveyard of the city
where the lack of color looks pretty

I wish there where fireflies tonight
sparkling in their own light
urging old ghosts to leave the night
and let imagination squeeze reality tight
relish the awe of midnight blue
where stillness sticks like glue
while covered in virgin snow
under a full moon aglow

Some vivid dreams silently created
matter most when midnight dictated
their meaning sustained in essence
by broken and bleached fences
where yellow becomes white
under the midnight light

Blue-green hedgerows in the distance
cast shadows unlike yellow fences
as towering trees announce with lusty voices
the passing of ignored choices
The chilled midnight blue of my yard
stands fixed in the minds eye
and I imagine ghosts in flight
Fleeing towards city lights

WESTERN PASSAGE....

Western Passage

'Twas a long journey he faced
where the future offered no grace

With determined strides, nothing less
he pursued his climb in mountain wilderness
his life focused in the ascent relentlessly
he sought the summit in his own way
and with his home now far away
He turned and glanced, as if to say...
" I climbed a mountain in search of a valley"

Shading his eyes with a steady hand
he now beheld barren flatland
he saw dust devils dancing in the sand
and really needed to understand
what laid ahead in future land
He truly needed a guiding lamp

On the distant horizon the sun beamed red
and he remembered why he had fled
He wanted to find the other side of dead
Live fully life's adventure instead
Now, at days end, he called upon the night
to ease his pain and bring some delight
He joyfully discarded the tools of ascension
tossing them into dark oblivion
Only a tiny flame was left behind
to make his existence hard to find

His human passion often raged
and refuge was found on the obscure stage
Common sense entered the scene
love often the go between
but passion trumped common sense
as tomorrow called for his presence
Finally, his journey was at an end
after a long trek and much time spent

He heard the crashing waves
smelled the salty breeze surf made
long before his eyes beheld
the restless and vibrant ocean swells
Frothy crests like cream windblown
scattered in the heavens blue dome

He saw a figure dressed in white
a golden haired girl that captured his heart
She beckoned him from the sandy shore
with a gentle wave, nothing more
inviting him to feel the warm beach
wanting him to swim in her ocean deep

The Easterly winds blew
against watery swells constantly new
waves stood strong and tall
momentarily held before their powerful fall
they peeled into perfect hollow caves
that rolled and rolled as endless summer waves

Then, out of the frothy water came she
taking him by the hand, her lips ever free
he felt her tender breath
upon his cheek now glistening wet
and together they entered the crashing waves
high above them like hollow crystal caves
They disappeared beneath greenish swells
leaving behind only seashells

Ice Fired.....

Ice Fired

Centered in my life from the start
Ice hockey looms full of delight
Winter, Summer, Autumn and Spring
cold ice is there for the taking

Frozen permanence is the illusion
that daily feeds my distraction

Rink lights hang above melting dark clouds
they chase shadows with brilliant shouts
cold echoes like trumpets above
the virgin rink ice I love
Pleasure motivates graying figures
they flash steel on crystallized nature

The sacred game bathes all in its light
soothes exit wounds that ache at night
and when awake, still in the dream
life flashes moments surreal

There is an eternity in an hour
when life is wrapped in ice fire
Hockey is that game of pure leisure
That lives on as my treasure

WINGS of LOVE.....REVISION #2

Wings of Love

My life supported by the wings of love
soars gratefully in the blue above

In the courtyards daylight
shadows crisscross the pavement bright
My life shades the sunlight
and reveals love in flight

'Tis always in the heart
that loves melody starts
'Tis where loves spirit is found
where love simmers deep down
Loves presence, its germinating seed
has its roots in midnight dreams
Its taste is ever sweet
as it quickens the lovers heartbeat

Sadly, rebuffed love smells like regret
love in its darkest hour that the soul cannot forget
A rejected heart is where surrender lives
where sorrows hide and always will
Sorrow drowning the spirit in a sea
a deep sea of past history
drowning in the depths of young love unforgotten
tender as the day it was begotten

Now, age has de-sexed my life
but love still blossoms and survives
My tired wings wind-tossed
Reveal many feathers forever lost
Memories hamper my flight
above that foamy sea of life
Inspiration is now half hidden
much like precious pearls forgotten

So, accept the gift of love gratefully
and pass on your life through it, most definitely.......

STIRRED and SHAKEN.....

Stirred and Shaken

Was it a grand illusion
flashing like spoons made of silver
that appeared strong and long
waiting for the moons pale face
ready to expose thin slices of truth
conveniently wrapped in spoken words

Words dripping with apparent passion
falling on the curious gathered
who absorbed thoughts hardly processed
Thoughts that echoed in dark rooms
bouncing from mind to mind
of those inside granite walls
replete with columns tall

Was it the broken silence
suspended in its lonely essence
that inherent awareness couldn't mask
and closed minds failed to grasp
Or was it the timid laughter
muffled by tinges of desire
craving promises sublime
that blinded everyone during that passing time

When tomorrow failed to arrive
they all blamed today for being alive
and when their dream suddenly ended
false words could not save them

Was it what I saw in their faces
the fading glory of National historical traces
Or was it the demise of the homeland
held firmly in the bad prophets hand
The painful shredding of a Democracy
embodied in spoken words lacking lucidity
That urged everyone to rise in desperation
and reject this vulgar condition
