The Arrival
On a Spring night beyond sunset
I heard the echoes of my steps
a merciful sound splitting the darkness
as last years leaves flying about, more or less
chased their shadows in futile quest
while the cool breeze stole my breath
The whipping wind bit my eyes
sounding much like mournful cries
and limited my vision as it swirled and spun
with eyes closed in this whirlwind second to none
I perceived light in shaded disguise
quickly, I walked beneath the threatening skies
Smells entered my nostrils and dwelled in mind close
tickling memories resurrected by the nose
I was surrounded by mysterious odors
like the sweet breath of spring flowers
combined with thyme and thistle
as I walked accompanied by my nervous whistle
On this humid night quite alone
I stumbled on scattered stones
while the memories of past fires
stimulated and stoked certain desires
that resided in mind day and nite
be that prose would capture my spirit light
With the road beneath my feet
I advanced down the narrow street
I had the urge to celebrate
the arrival of myself somewhat late
At the home where I sleep
At my humble house on Destiny Street
