Shooting Star
Through the golden beeches not far
I spotted a shooting star
A sight that traversed the Autumn air
on that October night quite clear
'Twas beyond a vast field of green
rich with corn stalks and flowing stream
a streaking show of light from heaven down
flashed across the steeples of our town
It's passing reflected on a serene pond
a momentary light from space beyond
briefly spending itself in night chill
as it disappeared over the distant hill
Starlight was eclipsed in a moment
by reddish fire quite extravagant
a vision gratefully grasped
beneath a firmament lacking an overcast
