The Futility of Epitaphs
HERE LIES A MAN WHO FOUND HAPPINESS
MORE OR LESS
On granite, wood or copper
chiseled, carved and embossed letters
are passed forward to never be read
by generations who care not about the dead
TRUST THAT YOUR HAPPINESS WILL VANISH
WHEN YOUR DREAMS ARE CAST ADRIFT
On rows of glistening erected marble
inscriptions display wisdom debatable
HE LIVED ALONE, DIED ALONE
LEFT NO WORDS TO HIS LIFES SONG
Final thoughts from the dark underground
rise and wait to be found
like jewels shining in their sleep
they flash brilliance in open fields
TRUST THAT THE EARTH REVOLVES WITH YOU
AND CERTAINLY NOT AROUND YOU
