Pale Polished People

Darkness gained on city streets
and our steps on pavement struck a beat
walking to school that night
Shadows and shapes of people left and right
near the entrance polished people mostly tall
milled about the dusky hall
we recognized their beaming forms
standing apart from those forlorn
They stood out like blooms of summer
like flashy flowers that revive ones desires
Bedazzling in a mysterious way
and yet, their faces pale gray
Much like somber offerings
casting shadows, nearly obscuring
the stated intention of the hour
to purposely bask in the students' grandeur
all sporting giddy smiles and obvious pride
showing collective joy difficult to hide
But to polished people at the event
stealing the moment was their intent
Their lustrous and shiny presence
Flashy vanity and silly nonsense
of overdone polish and tasteless display
most certainly ruined the childrens' school play

Winds of Woe

They who in unrest lie in gloom
know well their private domain
where voices on wind loudly bloom
and distress to soul is maintained

Blame the dismally destined things
for not keeping at bay
the messenger of ill winds
who accompanies the smell of decay

Odor on breeze that softly flies
casually borne on lifes' winds
carried about in individual skies
of wretched souls afraid and hiding

All searching  but having to stay
with weak flesh exposed, ever so
beneath dark clouds holding sanity at bay
So, lean against those winds that blow

In barren fields of modern life
where some common existence is sorrow
and lack of concern is rife
for something called tomorrow

While virtues' price seems too costly
standing tall, erect in vanity
as pride suffers and is swept away
like a shadow fading into eternity

So, let the mysterious future
of that most private place
shelter all and their measures
from the wicked winds of deaths' embrace

Wellwords

Live well the words you have now
as sips of wellwords feed know how
and timeworn words in veins do swell
to satisfy daily word spells
As bare branches hang against the sun
memories of past autumns
forcefully hide greens of spring
as you search for meaning
hiding behind walls ancient
gathering dust in somber silence
Hidden words rise from the abyss
and near depleted wellwords persist
as they float on dark surface
begging for redemption and harvest
So, reach down and bit by bit
scoop those precious word amulets
and reach well past your grasp
blindly feeling for memories past
that wait for revelation
that flicker of fiery benediction
in subdued light bathing words scattered
all seeking to be inspected and gathered
then tested for substance and value
for molding into forms new
'Tis discovery enjoyed always
burned into paper for all time to stay
Seek chunks of wild prose
gathered as they up rose
to breed children of the mind
full of imagination you'll find
brain viruses born and passed along
that germinate steady and strong
much like seeds in fertile ground
that take hold all around
advancing the thought train forward
towards the ultimate wellwords
awaiting patiently to engage
the human passions of coming age

Random Connections

Assembled, unconscious, rejected
                                        Memories of smoke and ashes
                                        in hearts leave bloody traces
on lovers' woes and fancy dreams
                                        like crushed flowers it seems
Extinct and easily forgotten
                                        Time in desolate nakedness
                                        charms sensual eyes the best
and when nakedness shades the light
time vanishes in the sightless night
Wilted and shriveled and dead
                                        Wet snow on flowers soft
warm frost on grass falls off
and the gold-red dead leaves of hate
Marks granite with names and dates
Farms, Urban centers and Nations that are
                                        Lands faraway in brotherhood
                                        Lives spent badly not understood
feed modern society sick with hurry
                                        tremble with cold visions everyday
Fashionable conformity readily accepted
                                        Where Western devils' wings repose
                                        on rising currents among shadows
as bitter fruits are all the rage
                                        consumed by pleasures' modern age
Wet-lip shutter, first time ever
                                        Lost virginity in lovers grow
faster and quicker rather than slow
                                        Taste the wild honey sweet
while tears kiss your naked feet
Romantic waning moon, darkened fields
                                        Leafless branches tap my window
hang loosely in winds that blow
                                        and through moist lips parted
the ritual of life is completed
Clock sounds and beautys' brink
                                        Heavens' fellowship sounds the melody
that echoes on waves in glassy sea
                                        words in time portals resound
as timely arms go round and round
Presence of nothing is everything
                                        Silence lacks comment
                                        and violence awakes peaceful men
as exploring hands and flushed faces
                                        probe the bodies' hidden places
Fragile boundaries of love deceive
Love ends like a limp morning glory
no pressure in the ruptured artery
as the python wraps its final coil
in squeezing convulsions of love foiled

Old Timers Hockey

Hockey, that fountain of immortal drink
satiates young and old in many ways
pours down on us from Heavens' brink
and lights up remaining days
'Tis on frosted blades that pleasures reside
among circles and lines red, blue
as the chilled spirit entwines the heart
bringing smiles to a lucky few
Body motion by mind propelled
fueled by the desire for prolonged life
  ageless health mindfully revels
in shaved ice sprays and fun that lights
the path of years as one ages
No more  games with foes fighting
just friends in similar life stages
Playing the game on prayer and wing
So, let the vultures wait and starve
for in fervent hope of the next game
we persist and survive
As the game fans our soul flames
All renounce their frailties of the hour
Happy to breathe sweet rink air
and on fraternal ice bond together
enjoying our cold and pleasant lair
For certainly, a day in childhood
seeming to last forever
now,'Tis quietly understood
that hockey is for today or never
