LEAVES
One by one they fell slowly
creating a sea of color
everywhere during the Season's day
in a glorious ground cover
The final song of Summers' glory
slipped from their patient lips
while they joined Autumn's story
to become artful visions slowly sipped
With their blanket covering sleepy fields
that hid fading greenery from sunlight
they shielded plowed ground that bleeds
protecting bowers that edge woodlands wild
They silently welcomed Winter advancing fast
while gathered in colorful pillows
and remained silent in deaths' grasp
protecting the land for an expected tomorrow
