Leaf
When leaf shadows from tall maples
dance across my face in silent prayer
eager to declare Seasonal desires
to partake in life's renewal
I cherish their fresh found greenery
newborn and full of life instilled
that exude promise of moments filled
with refreshing shade awaiting me
So, beneath their stately canopy I endure
absorb the fragrance of Spring breezes
and relax with the sound of fidgeting leaves
that partake in my retirement leisure
I thank them for cool shade
I thank them for the oxygen they make
I thank them for their Autumn color
I thank them for providing shelter
Later, when they have fulfilled their destiny
I rake the remnants of their lives
and gratefully thank them for soothing my sight
