Winter River
Frigid river water like clear gin
flows in frothy waves and curls
then disappears under shell ice that swirls
beneath the loneliness of winter chill
This winter river jars our senses
seeks only momentary gazes from us
to satisfy our spirit pleasure thus
vindicating its icy presence
As the Great Blue Heron no longer flies
and the bass no longer leaps
no more wild flowers border waters deep
the winter river is host to Golden Eyes
Beauty is there in frozen desolation
seeing the river I know quite well
Quietly, I succumb to its winter spell
that resides in seasonal conditions
Frothy tongues lick ice shelves
and murmur babbling incantations
that draw my gaze and attention
to Winter Rivers mystical self
and like enduring love, it flows
nurturing needs and wants that arise
during winter times that otherwise
would linger in our mind shadows
