Cold Beauty
Come, sit by the river with me
enjoy natures soothing serenity
may you experience different layers of reality
while you sit by the river with me
The river rages between cold ivory
that covers ruddy banks
trees cast empty shadows in irony
that land on flashing diamonds of river garland
River rocks scattered about
are crowned with snowy foreheads
handy perches for chilled waterfowl
who would rather swim instead
This shallow river censured by probing eyes
pulls at the soul with its magnetic frothy crests
and mocks the season with rebel guise
refusing to transform into crystal forests
Flowing currents untouched by the cold sting
bitten by bitter winds surfing the sky
taunt feathered residents who sit in snow brooding
wondering where cold beauty lies
Being ever mindful of the beholder
I say, beauty lies in the perception of life
the eternal desire growing ever colder
that searches for the gift of cold beauty's delight
